After growing up with sensitive, oily and acne-prone skin (thanks, Mom!), I learned early on how important it is to create a skincare routine that helps combat day to day problems and to clear your skin.
For me, I learned that overcomplicating my skincare regimen was a problem. From the beginning of my skincare journey, I was using a set of 10 -12 products a day! But after much trial and error, I’ve come to believe “the simpler, the better”. Skincare is unique to every person, as skin types and skin concerns vary greatly, but below I share some of the secrets to my skincare success. It is my hope that this is useful to anyone else struggling with skincare concerns.
Step No. 1: Know Your Skin
The first phase of building up your skincare routine is to understand your skin type! My skin type falls under the “mixture combination? skin” class: I have oily areas around my nose and T-zone, yet I’m very dr,y or normal, everywhere else. Understanding your skin type and how your skin will respond to specific products truly helps when it comes to trying or buying new skincare or makeup.
Step No. 2: Keep it Clean
When it comes to cleansing, don’t feel like you have to buy fancy, expensive products in order to achieve great skin. Just find a cleanser that works well for you and your skin type. For me, I find that foamy cleansers tend to work best at removing all traces of my make-up and give me a deap clean feeling. . For the past few months, I’ve been using Gentle Bubble Foaming Face Washby Glam Glow as my everyday cleanser and I really like it! If your skin tends to be drier, a foamy cleanser may not work for you unless it also has moisturizers built into it. When researching, don’t be shy and ask around when shopping for what works best for you.
Step No. 3: Exfoliate
Exfoliate once per week! Exfoliating expels the dry/dead skin cells on the outside of your skin and is such a significant advance in keeping your pores clean and keeping up a solid glow.Recently I’ve been loving the dr. brandt® MICRODERMABRASION Polish Like a Pro Creamand honestly it is AMAZING! In addition to the fact that it smells stunning, it contains professional-grade exfoliant crystals, identical to those used in microdermabrasion treatments. I use this once a week to help polish away the dead skin cells and imperfections and to keep my skin fresh and smooth.
Step No. 4: Moisturize and Nourish
Moisturizing supports hydration in your skin and helps to prevent future fine lines and wrinkles. Since I have combination skin, I like to utilize a lightweight lotion like the Better Daze Ahead CBD Moisturizerfrom Farmacy Beauty – it feels GREAT on my skin! Lotions are also lighter in texture and work well with my skin type. If you want something a bit heavier, perhaps at night for drier skin or in colder months, I recommend something more emollient, like a night cream.
Step No. 5: Experiment!
I like to have fun with my skincare routine and I often try new tools or trends that I find in the marketplace. I have recently jumped in on the jade roller trend, and now I see what all the hype is about! I keep my jade roller on the fridge to keep it cold and have been using it each morning and night the past few weeks. It has helped greatly diminish signs of morning puffiness and dark circles. It additionally leaves me feeling crisp and restored!
That sums up my simple, but successful skincare routine! I hope this helps anyone struggling to find their own solutions so please let me know your thoughts, or if you use any of these products, in the comments down below.
